This exciting ACMC program offers a variety of outings to points of cultural interest. ARTours include day and overnight trips to acclaimed musical and theatrical performances, as well as tours of major regional and national art exhibits. Past ARTours "Day" trips have included trips to Charlotte's Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium to see Broadway touring shows and to Winston-Salem's Stevens Center to see ballet, theater and opera. Past "Overnight" ARTours have been to New Orleans, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York City, Boston, Santa Fe, Italy, Spain, and London.

LINCOLN CENTER JAZZ ORCHESTRA with Wynton Marsalis Sunday, January 18, 2009 - Chapel Hill New Orleans native Wynton Marsalis was the first artist to win a jazz and classical Grammy Award in the same year. The best known and most influential jazz musician of his generation, he is artistic director of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. This jazz orchestra, composed of fifteen of today's finest players, performs around the world. Program TBA.
THE NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC with Lorin Mazael Tuesday, March 3, 2009 - Chapel Hill The oldest orchestra in the U.S., the New York Philharmonic's roster of music directors is perhaps the richest and most distinguished in the world. Conducted by Lorin Maazel, the program will include Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Schumann's Symphony No. 4 in D minor, Op. 120, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.
VIETNAM & CAMBODIA February 11-27, 2009 The intriguing world of Indochine beckons! This ARTour is designed for the Arts Council by TraveLearn to educate, entertain and enrich the traveler by helping make sense of this foreign land, rather than simply provide viewfinder glimpses of it. We will learn about Vietnam's ancient traditions and culture and gain insights into their present day world, and at journey's end, discover the jungle-draped temples of mystical Angkor Wat. DALLAS / FORTH WORTH March 11-15, 2009 Explore the renowned museums in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with art historian, Dr. Molly Gwinn. Dr. Gwinn has led art lectures to sell-out audiences at a Fine Art Lecture Series presented by the Arts Council and Weymouth Center for the past two years. Included in the trip are visits to the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center & Garden, Meadows Museum at SMU, Kimball Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum and the Forth Worth Water Gardens. There will also be a Pops concert with the Dallas Symphony, featuring The Glenn Miller Orchestra.
COULDA, WOULDA, SHOULDA: PATTI LUPONE Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - Chapel Hill Tony Award-winning Broadway star Patti LuPone (the original Evita) takes us on a high-spirited tour of songs and roles that she “could have played, should have played, did play and will play,” with selections from Hair, Funny Girl, West Side Story, Peter Pan, Anything Goes, and more. NEW YORK CITY March 25-19, 2009 Highlights from this popular ARTour include the new musical Billy Elliot, the Tony Award-winning revival of South Pacific (if you didn't attend our August ARTour to NYC), and a demanding double-billing of Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci featuring tenor Roberto Alagna at The Met. Also included is a special VIP Tour led by Joe Rosenberg. The tour will offer a private visit to the New Amsterdam Theatre, one of the world's most beautifully restored art nouveau theatres, and a meeting with Oscar Andrew Hammerstein, as he shares stories about his family's heritage, their contribution to American musical theatre, and personal stories behind the creation of South Pacific.

BOLSHOI BALLET: SWAN LAKE Sunday June 14, 2009 - Chapel Hill The majestic Swan Lake, originally created for the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877, features the company's incomparable prima ballerinas expressing the ecstasy, tenderness, hope and despair that make this the most beloved of all ballets. Long considered one of the world's great cultural treasures, Russia's grand Bolshoi has captivated dance lovers for more than 200 years.

ACMC ARTour CANCELLATION POLICY: 35% of the total cost will be withheld for cancellations after registration on ALL ARTours. NO refunds are made after advertised full payment deadline, unless substitute traveler is found, at which time transfer fees, if applicable, will be withheld. Trip cancellation insurance available on request.

You should be in good physical condition to fully enjoy our ARTours. The Arts Council cannot provide individual assistance during the tours and therefore reserves the right to decline anyone on a tour who has a physical condition that could create a hazard to him or herself or could impact the enjoyment of other travelers on the trip.
