WELCOME! The Arts Council of Moore County requests the pleasure of your company. We are excited to offer a fifth year of Appetite for Art, thanks to the overwhelming response and success of last year's event. Appetite for Art is a series of exciting parties hosted by generous friends of the Arts Council. Dinners, luncheons, and other themed events are offered throughout the year. Cost per party is noted. All proceeds from Appetite for Art will benefit the programs and services of the Arts Council of Moore County.
PARTY RESERVATIONS: Reservations for each party will be accepted with a completed reservation form on a "first-come, first-served" basis. To receive your reservation form via mail, just call the Arts Council at 910-692-ARTS (2787) or pick a brochure up at the Campbell House (482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines). Make your selections early before the parties fill up.

Party #7: PINEHURST GOLF LESSON Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1-3 p.m. Host: Eric Alpenfels Sign up your foursome for a golf lesson by the best while supporting the Arts Council! Eric Alpenfels, director of Golf Instruction at the Pinehurst Golf Academy, will provide an afternoon of golf instruction that will surely lower your handicap. This also makes a great Mother's or Father's Day gift! (Hint, hint!)
Eric Alpenfels has been part of the Pinehurst family since 1985. He is a Class A PGA of America professional and is involved in daily instruction with both amateur and professional golfers. His expertise and professionalism have earned him recognition from Golf Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Teachers in America" and Golf Digest as one of "America's 50 Greatest Teachers."Limited to 4 guests / Cost per person: $100 / Attire: Golf Attire

Party #8: POKER FUN Friday, April 16, 2010 at 7 p.m. Host: Myrna & Bob Spencer and Carolyn & Bob Alli Bring your poker face to a poker party for all levels. Enjoy assorted snacks and card-playing faire with soda, beer and wine. You will receive $15 worth of chips to begin. Additional chips will be available for purchase. Party #9: THE POET & THE PLAYWRIGHT Friday, April 16, 2010 at 7 p.m. Host: Steve Bouser, Stephen Smith and Arts Council of Moore County Relax with a glass of wine and be entertained by award-winning authors, Stephen E. Smith (A Thousand Things Time Will Never Let Us Say: Correspondence of James & Katharine Boyd & Friends) and Steve Bouser (Senator Sam-A One-Man Play), as they read excerpts from their works. Party #10: COLOR: YOUR BEST FRIEND IN DESIGN Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 4 p.m. Host: Sue Hammer A professional Interior Designer shows how to make the most positive impact with color. Spruce up the old or start from scratch realizing that color can be your best friend. Sue Hammer will show the newest trends in color--using paint, fabric, wallpapers and accessories. See local artists from the Artists League of the Sandhills painting "en plein air" in the gardens. Listen to a barbershop quartet from the Golf Capital Chorus while enjoying the art exhibit in the Campbell House Galleries and a huge selection of pottery from the Seagrove area. Carol is the owner of Botanicals in Southern Pines and has 14 years of experience and enthusiasm in the florist industry. Carol is well known for her innovative and unique floral designs. She is a member and serves on the board of the NC State Florist Association. She holds an Associate of Arts degree and Interior Design and earned her accreditation from the American Institute of Floral Design. Party #17: AN AFTERNOON WITH BLAND SIMPSON Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 3 p.m. Host: Arts Council of Moore County Enjoy a special afternoon with award-winning writer, musician and teacher Bland Simpson as he comments on and reads from his works.
A teacher and director of the Creative Writing Program at UNC-Chapel Hill, Bland is the author of such books as The Great Dismal, A Carolinian's Swamp Memoir; Ghost Ship of Diamond Shoals, The Mystery of the Carroll A. Deering; and his latest book, The Inner Islands: A Carolinian's Sound Country Chronicle. He is also a member of the Tony Award-winning, internationally acclaimed string band The Red Clay Ramblers. With the Ramblers, Bland has toured all over the world, and has collaborated on such musicals as: Pump Boys & Dinettes (Tony nominee); Kudzu, A Southern Musical; and three-time Broadway hit and special Tony Award-winning Fool Moon.

Party #18: CHRISTMAS TEA AND COOKIE EXCHANGE Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 1 p.m. Host: Cav & Chuck Peterson In the spirit of the season, enjoy a reading of the story, A Cup of Christmas Tea. Mrs. Claus will also discuss her home at the North Pole. Coffee, tea and hot cider will be served, along with desserts, candies and nuts.
